The Archive Collection: Places

Kilcash Castle, County Tipperary, Ireland, 2000

“I love photographing places- beautiful places, historic places and sometimes just ordinary places. Sometimes it’s the history of the place that makes them so fascinating, sometimes it’s the light that catches my eye. But I’m also fascinated by how much some places have changed over the years. When I’ve gone back to re-visit some of these locations, trees have sprung up where there weren’t any thirty years ago, or a monument in a cemetery has now crumbled beyond recognition. Walls have fallen down or a building is now completely gone and replaced with something modern. Everything changes and nothing stays the same.

“To that end, these images are a record of a time that has moved on, of how a place once looked, maintained and populated by people who are no longer there.”
